TIMES 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. LOCATION Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes 57 rue Cuvier 75005 Paris OVERVIEW In the heart of the Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes, this workshop offers an immersive introduction to observational drawing from live subjects. Participants will be invited to study a wide variety of animals to develop their eye, observation skills, and drawing technique. Through progressive exercises, from quick sketches to more detailed studies, everyone will learn to capture the proportions, movements, volumes, and unique character of each species. Particular attention will be paid to drawing construction, understanding forms, and expressive linework. The limited number of participants allows for personalized guidance tailored to both beginners and experienced artists. GROUP SIZE 5 participants minimum – 12 participants maximum PRICES 75 euros per session 280 euros for a series of 4 sessions Admission to the Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes is not included in the workshop fee and must be paid separately by each participant. MATERIALS TO BRING - Sketchbook or drawing pad - Graphite pencils (3B) - Kneaded eraser - Pencil sharpener - Lightweight folding stool (optional) - Watercolors and water bottle, appropriately sized squirrel-hair brush TEACHER Claudio Locatelli A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, professional sculptor and artist Claudio Locatelli has taught animal and botanical drawing to teenagers at the Jardin des Plantes for more than fifteen years. His work has been exhibited in art galleries in France and internationally for 25 years. His teaching combines the rigor of academic drawing with a sensitive, lively approach to observing the natural world.
