Discovering the island’s remarkable trees and wildlife
August 6, 10:00 a.m. The trees of l’île aux Cygnes Created in the 19th century, this artificial island built on the Seine is planted with a remarkable collection of around sixty tree species. Its continuous, abundant canopy provides shelter and food for birds and insects. On its sloping embankments, a varied wild flora grows, accompanied by its host of insects. Common wall lizards live in the crevices of this stony slope. This artificial space forms a distinctive habitat, at the intersection of the green corridor and the blue corridor. In the Seine, aquatic plant beds, rare in Paris, allow many fish to reproduce: roach, tench, carp, pike-perch … This island is essential for maintaining and preserving biodiversity in the Capital.
