On stage, Étienne Mbappé embodies the very spirit of the jam session: a musical dialogue where every note is an invitation to adventure.
For this 20th edition of the Festival estival de Jam, the Club welcomes an iconic musician whose story is closely tied to this venue: Étienne Mbappé. This major name in jazz and world music has a true love story with the Club, one that began in the 1980s, and with its stage, which he now knows better than anyone after decades of music, sweat, and shared passion within its walls. His presence tonight is a celebration of the African roots of jazz. His highly distinctive gloved playing gives him an unmistakable sound signature: a delicate touch and raw expressiveness that set him apart on stages around the world. Alongside him are three outstanding musicians: Anthony Jambon on guitar, with a crystalline, refined style, already Étienne's stage partner; Brice Essomba on keyboards, an arranger and composer with jazz and Afro-contemporary colors; and Japhet Boristhène on drums, a child of La Réunion who has become one of the most respected figures on the Lyon jazz scene. An evening that promises to be memorable.
