Taking care of the street? Greening and negotiations over public space in the Goutte d'Or. Talk and discussion with Virginie Milliot (Associate Professor, Université Paris Nanterre), Emilie Guitard (anthropology research fellow, UMR 8586), Anne Plouzennec (coordinator of the l’Univert garden) and Philippe Calandre (founder of the Jardin de l’Assommoir). Moderator: Laurence Baudelet Stelmacher

In recent years, residents of the Goutte d'Or have taken the initiative to add greenery to the streets as a way of caring for this space that we share every day. We invite you to hear about these experiments and join us in reflecting on the connections, negotiations and tensions they have generated in the neighborhood. La Goutte d’Or s’arrache au bitume Festival des jardins partagés is an unmissable autumn event in the Goutte d'Or, organized by a collective of nonprofit organizations in partnership with Université Paris Nanterre, the Goutte d'Or Library and the Institut des Cultures d'Islam. The collective organizing the festival includes the neighborhood’s five community gardens: Jardins Aziza et Bashung (la Goutte Verte), l'Univert (Halage), le Jardin de la Table ouverte (La Table Ouverte), le Jardin de l'Assommoir (Art&A), the Goutte d'Or Library, urban anthropologist Virginie Milliot (Université Paris Nanterre), Collectif 4C and the nonprofit Graine de Jardins, as well as the Institut des Cultures d'Islam and les enfants de la Goutte d'Or. The program includes talks, walks through the neighborhood’s gardens and green spaces, botanical drawing, foraging and cooking workshops, photography and drawing exhibitions, and film screenings.
