The Maison-Blanche neighborhood takes its name from a hamlet of the same name that stood on the current site of the Maison-Blanche metro station. The northern part of the neighborhood was annexed to the city of Paris in 1860. It previously belonged to the commune of Gentilly. Butte-aux-Cailles, to the north, was at the time covered with meadows, mills, and quarries. These quarries were used to fill in the valley, then to completely cover the Bièvre, which flowed nearby. From rural hamlet to industrial district, Maison-Blanche has lived many lives. Today, it is a peaceful neighborhood filled with hidden, unusual lanes and many pockets of greenery. This guided tour is offered by the Comité d'histoire de la Ville de Paris. A dedicated digital route, highlighting the history and heritage of this neighborhood in the 13th arrondissement, was created by the Département de l'histoire, de la mémoire et des musées associatifs (Direction des affaires culturelles) as part of the Ville de Paris participatory budget.

Price: Free tour, subject to availability (25 people per tour). Booking required from July 21, 2026
