The son of a cabinetmaker, Antoine Bourdelle (1861-1929) was born in Montauban (Tarn-et-Garonne). He studied at the école des Beaux-arts de Toulouse, then joined the studio of sculptor Alexandre Falguière at the École des Beaux-arts de Paris. He settled in Montparnasse, at 16 impasse du Maine (now the musée Bourdelle). He lived and worked in this artists' community for more than 40 years. The sculptor moved here in 1885. He first rented a studio, then gradually acquired others. This setup allowed him to store his works and fulfill his many commissions. After several extensions during the sculptor's lifetime and the bequest of his property and works to the Ville de Paris, Antoine Bourdelle's studio became a museum in 1949. This guided tour is offered by the Comité d'histoire de la Ville de Paris. A digital app highlighting the history of artists' studios in the Montparnasse neighborhood was created by the Département de l'histoire, de la mémoire et des musées associatifs (Direction des affaires culturelles) as part of the budget participatif de la Ville de Paris. Six walks are available: "Around the musée Bourdelle", "Around La Ruche", "Around the cemetery", "Around Giacometti", "Around Monsouris" and "Around the Musée Zadkine.

Price: Free tour subject to availability (25 people per tour). Reservation required from July 28, 2026
