Femmage — Singer and improviser Äulne pays tribute to jazz pioneer Jeanne Lee with a unique interpretation of her unforgettable standards.
Jeanne Lee is a singer who left her mark on jazz history through her unique, profound, and sensitive reinterpretations of standards, as well as her distinctive and free approach to vocal jazz. Highlights of her discography that absolutely deserve to be rediscovered include the albums she recorded with pianist Mal Waldron, The Newest Sound Around (1961) and Free Standards (1966), as well as the extraordinary "Conspiracy" (1974) and "Natural Affinities" (1992) with Dave Holland. Singer, actress, and improviser Äulne, who is active in jazz and improvised music, pays tribute to her with a beautifully refined trio, where emotion and the joy of improvisation take center stage. Line-up: Diane Delaune: vocals; Gary Brunton: double bass; Laurent Epstein: piano. The 38Riv Jazz Club is an intimate venue in the heart of the Marais (38 rue de Rivoli, Paris 4e), dedicated to jazz and improvised music.
