Contemporary jazz — Alexis Valet invites the talented Joe Sanders for an evening of bold improvisation, bringing together a close-knit group of musicians at 38Riv.
Alexis Valet continues his residency at 38Riv with top-flight guests, accompanied as always by a close-knit group of musicians. The music explores a space of intense, fluid improvisation. An extraordinary double bassist rarely seen on French stages, Joe Sanders charts bold musical paths. Now based in the south of France, this major figure in contemporary jazz is renowned for the depth of his playing, his exceptional listening skills, and his ability to move between styles with remarkable freedom. A sought-after collaborator, he has performed for more than twenty years with leading figures such as Joshua Redman, Ben Wendel, Gerald Clayton, Kendrick Scott, Charles Lloyd, and Logan Richardson. Featured on numerous landmark recordings from the international jazz scene, he has also developed a distinctive body of solo work blending modern jazz, blues, Afro-Latin music, folk, and contemporary influences. Following "Introducing Joe Sanders" and "Humanity," he presents his new album, "Parallels," in 2026—an intimate and ambitious project that reveals the full richness of his musical world and confirms his place among the most creative voices of his generation. Line-up: Alexis Valet: vibraphone; Joe Sanders: double bass; Carl Henri Morisset: piano; TBA: drums. 38Riv Jazz Club is an intimate venue in the heart of the Marais (38 rue de Rivoli, Paris 4e), dedicated to jazz and improvised music.
