Sarah Bazire presents her playmat book and invites you to listen to stories about the Seine and the life it supports.
How can we teach very young children about protecting ecosystems? This is the question that visual artist Sarah Bazire explored during her residency with children aged 5 months to 3 years, as well as with the professional teams at the crèche des Sources du Nord and bibliothèque Naguib Mahfouz. “I believe that to care for something, we must first understand it and take a closer look at what we want to protect,” Sarah Bazire explains. Lying down, crawling, or standing, children explore biodiversity at their own level and hear stories about all the lives around them, in and around the Seine. Weather permitting, this activity will take place on the lawns of Parc de Belleville and offer opportunities for further discoveries in partnership with the gardening team. This activity is part of the "L'Art pour grandir" program. Sarah Bazire holds a master’s degree in “Exhibition Practices” (Beaux-Arts de Caen and Bruxelles) and a professional bachelor’s degree in Book Professions, specializing in libraries and documentation. She is particularly interested in the connections between narratives, books, and exhibitions, as well as in embodied reading and gestural reading that engages all the senses. Her research and residency focused on the cognitive mechanisms of very young children and on ways of introducing scientific concepts to them through imagination, books, and images.
