COLOR AND COLOR CHART WORKSHOP for beginners and advanced participants
Knowledge of color is one of the foundations of painting and the arts and crafts professions. Artists and craftspeople must know how to analyze, compose, reproduce, and discuss it. Color can be learned. Through methodical practice, the eye can broaden its range of perception. Drawing on the teachings of Johannes Itten, a professor at the Bauhaus, you will learn the theory of the seven contrasts, how to use different colors, recreate an existing tone, and harmonize a composition. This will enable you to address the various questions that arise during a project and create your own tones. Completing a series of exercises and producing different color charts will help support your various projects. The exercises will be illustrated with examples of paintings and completed works. Technical handouts will be distributed or explained during the workshop. This workshop offers a comprehensive exploration of color through theory (the color wheel and Itten’s contrasts) and practice (mixing, color charts, and color matching). Through progressive exercises and practical projects, participants will experiment with color harmonies, contrasts, and tonal variations. They will thereby develop greater mastery of color and painting techniques.
