Do you have a fantasy writing project underway, a character or situation that has been on your mind for a while, and want to build a story around it? Or would you simply like to discover the writing conventions of this genre? Join us for five days to explore or deepen your understanding of fantasy writing.
Overall workshop objective: Complete the five-day workshop with several fantasy texts, the beginnings of stories that can be continued after the workshop, and/or an idea for a longer project. More specific objectives - Discover how a fantasy text is crafted: work with imagination, strangeness, and the uncanny in a story. - Develop concision and precision in your choice of words. - Work on a text's structure, rhythm, and musicality. - Write using a variety of materials: supporting texts by authors, poems, illustrations, and photos. - Discover the work of several contemporary authors and rediscover the classics of the genre. - Develop characters through their speech, gestures, and movement. Teaching methods - Reading texts by classic authors (Julio Cortazar, Dino Buzzati, Théophile Gautier…) and contemporary authors (Neil Gaiman…), which will serve as inspiration for writing prompts. - Alternating technical and thematic writing prompts designed to develop language and structure and produce several texts for young readers. - Feedback from the facilitator and the group after the texts are read aloud. - A supportive environment that promotes attentive listening and discussion among participants.
