Too often overlooked, printing is an essential part of creating a print.
This workshop covers the various aspects of the printing process (choice of paper and ink, wiping, and press setup), as well as printing with different engraving techniques (drypoint, burin engraving, mezzotint, etching, and aquatint). Each participant should bring several engraved plates to produce “good proofs.” During the workshop, we will also cover printing techniques such as chine collé, à la poupée inking, and multi-plate printing. The aim is to learn the fundamentals of the printing process in order to produce a proof that faithfully reflects the engraved plate. Teaching methods: First, the instructor will show participants the key aspects of the printing process. Using one of the participants' plates, the instructor will produce a "good proof" while providing technical explanations throughout the process. Participants will then print proofs from their own plates. During the process, their technique will be checked and corrected to help them achieve a "good proof." Next, we will explore more complex printing techniques, such as chine collé, à la poupée inking, and multi-plate printing. The instructor will produce prints to demonstrate the procedure required for each technique. Participants will then create proofs using the same procedures.
