What if art became a way to reconnect with the living world?
As part of L’Automne de la science, the library is hosting a talk on the relationship between art and nature. Through a three-part journey, this talk explores how artists engage with the living world to reflect, create, and question our place in the world. Creating from nature first means drawing inspiration from its forms, colors, and rhythms to represent it. Creating with and within nature then means treating nature as both a material and a creative space in its own right. Finally, joining forces with nature means examining contemporary artistic practices that seek to reconnect with the living world and rethink our relationship with the environment. By bringing together artworks, artists’ approaches, and current issues, this talk offers an accessible and thoughtful look at these different perspectives, helping us better understand how art can contribute to reconnecting us with the natural world. The talk will be given by art historian Eric Parmentier. It will last one hour, followed by approximately thirty minutes of discussion with the audience.
