À propos

Amid the excitement of 19th-century Paris, the 9th arrondissement became a key meeting place and creative hub for artists, including Claude Monet.

Through the figure of Claude Monet, this lecture offers a fresh perspective on the history of Paris’s 9th arrondissement. Moving beyond a strictly artistic approach, it will explore the connections between the famous painter and this rapidly changing district in the 19th century. Which places did Monet frequent in the 9th arrondissement? What role did this burgeoning district play in his career and in the birth of Impressionism? From cafés, theaters, and galleries to artists’ networks, this event will reveal a vibrant Paris where artistic creation, cultural life, and urban upheaval converged. It is a lively and accessible way to rediscover both Claude Monet… and the history of one of the capital’s most iconic districts. This lecture will be led by Michel Güet, a licensed tour guide.
