À propos

Why should we read or reread Malraux in the face of the “contagion of darkness”? A lecture by Pascal Louvrier, accompanied by readings from his essay and works by André Malraux (1902–1976)

André Malraux is the very opposite of submission. At a time when the West seems to have lost many of its values and nihilism is advancing by leaps and bounds, Pascal Louvrier turns to the author of La Condition humaine (Prix Goncourt 1933) to bring his commitments into the present day. Malraux’s violent, fast-paced novels shed a passionate light on the essence of his credo: “to find resolution through action.” Action that fuels his freedom and creative power and stands against the suffering of peoples… while attempting to erase his own childhood wounds. Pascal Louvrier seeks to answer this question by revisiting Malraux’s work in his essay Malraux maintenant (Le Passeur Éditeur, 2025). The lecture will be accompanied by readings from Pascal Louvier’s essay and texts by André Malraux, performed by actress Clémentine Marmey. - The author A writer and journalist, Pascal Louvrier has written numerous biographies, which he calls psychographies – Paul Morand, Françoise Sagan, Georges Bataille, Philippe Sollers –, as well as four novels. He taught literature in Paris and served as an adviser to Roland Dumas, a former minister under François Mitterrand. - The actress Trained in the Classe Libre at Cours Florent, Clémentine Marmey is an actress and singer with some twenty productions to her name. She has worked with several directors and performed at renowned venues in France and Switzerland. In 2026, she is touring with performances of texts by André Malraux. - An event marking the fiftieth anniversary of André Malraux’s death, André Malraux, rediscovering a singular voice | Ministère de la Culture - With the participation of the Le Piéton de Paris bookshop, 58 rue de l'Hôtel de Ville, 75004 - Instagram - which will offer Malraux maintenant for sale.
