The libraries of the 10th arrondissement are delighted to welcome Joy Sorman to discuss her latest book, La vie brute, published by Flammarion. Joy Sorman initially taught philosophy before turning to writing. Her first novel, Boys, boys, boys, was published in 2005 and won the prix de Flore. In 2013, she received the prix François-Mauriac de l’Académie française for Comme une bête. In 2014, La Peau de l’ours was longlisted for the prix Goncourt. In 2021, she published À la folie with Flammarion, which was a major critical and popular success; Credits: js In La vie brute, Joy Sorman recounts her encounter with Irène Gérard, a neurodivergent artist described as an outsider artist who lives in seclusion in the Ardennes. Over the course of a year, Sorman attempts to unravel the mystery of this woman, whose art—both raw and poetic—fascinates and intrigues. Their relationship becomes a lens through which to explore marginality, artistic creation, and the search for meaning through others.
