Maison Élysée invites the public to discover the Fort de Brégançon through a one-of-a-kind exhibition.
This summer, the Maison Élysée museum is presenting an exhibition dedicated to the Fort de Brégançon, the presidential residence located in the south of France. This fortress, whose name comes from the Celtic brig, meaning hill or mount, stands on a rock 35 meters above sea level, overlooking the Mediterranean from the hills of Var. Merovingian in origin, this historic site first served as a military fortification before becoming, in 1968, the official residence of the presidents of the Republic. The exhibition traces the fort’s many changes and the site’s transformations, looking back at the work carried out over the centuries to shape the place as we know it today. It also highlights the importance of the Fort de Brégançon in the presidential life of the Fifth Republic, and its role in diplomatic relations. For this exhibition, Maison Élysée has received loans from the Mobilier national, the Musée de l’Armée, and the Bibliothèque nationale de France. The event accompanies the recent publication of a special issue of Beaux-Arts magazine devoted to the Fort de Brégançon. A unique opportunity to dive into the history and behind-the-scenes life of an emblematic place of the French Presidency.
