To mark its fiftieth anniversary, the Bibliothèque Germaine-Tillion is offering visitors an exhibition designed with the Fonds d'art contemporain - Paris collections, featuring four dialogues between works from 1976 and works by emerging artists.
The Trocadéro library, renamed Germaine Tillion in 2010, opened its doors in 1976 very close to the Place du Trocadéro. To mark its fiftieth anniversary, it has partnered with the Fonds d'art contemporain - Paris collections to present an exhibition for its visitors. In doing so, it echoes an initiative by Jean Nouvel, who, as the library's interior designer in 1976, selected eight "Pompier" paintings and two statues from the reserves of the Petit-Palais and the Fonds municipal d'art contemporain (renamed Fonds d'art contemporain - Paris collections in 2019), which remained on display until the late 1980s. To celebrate this anniversary, the Fonds d'art contemporain is presenting a selection of works acquired in the 1970s alongside works by emerging artists. Together, they form four duos that engage in a dialogue through their aesthetics, subject matter, colors, or techniques.
