To mark the tricentenary of the publication of Gulliver’s Travels, the Bibliothèque historique and the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris invite you to an evening of readings accompanied by violin, celebrating Jonathan Swift’s masterpiece.

A jewel of Irish literature, Gulliver’s Travels has profoundly influenced generations of readers around the world. This year also marks Ireland’s six-month rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, which began in July. Together, these two occasions offer an opportunity to rediscover this legendary work and celebrate the vitality of Irish culture. Alongside the event, the Bibliothèque historique is presenting a selection of documents and original materials from its collections, highlighting the richness of Jonathan Swift’s work. Théophile Choquet is an actor and director. Trained at the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Metz and then in Strasbourg, and holding a master’s degree in theatre studies from Université Paris 3 Sorbonne Nouvelle, he creates and performs productions in France and around the world (Brazil, Argentina, Denmark…). His artistic approach promotes an open vision of theatre where literature and poetry come together, often in unusual venues (churches, historic monuments, libraries, boats, rose gardens). A lover of words, he is invited to give public readings throughout France at various literary festivals, in Paris at the Centre Culturel Irlandais and the Maison de la Culture du Japon, alongside musicians at the Opéra National du Rhin, and with the Orchestre de Normandie. Rachael Ní Leannáin, originally from Monaghan in Ireland, is a multidisciplinary musician who has performed traditional Irish music since the age of seven, as a soloist, in groups, and in orchestras. She has appeared at various festivals and received awards in national competitions. During the year she spent in Paris, she was invited to perform at several events (ambassade d’Irlande, Centre Culturel Irlandais, Marché de la Poésie), bringing a touch of her native Ireland through traditional music. You can also discover the “Gulliver 300” exhibition at the Centre Culturel Irlandais, running until November 13. In partnership with the Centre Culturel Irlandais. With the support of DRAC Ile-de-France
