"Art therapy encompasses psychotherapeutic techniques that use artistic practices as the primary means of communication and expression. Speech is not the main therapeutic tool: the process of reflection and exploration develops through engagement in creative work. All forms of practice associated with artistic disciplines can be used: painting, modeling, the performing arts (theater, dance, puppetry), music, and writing." Anne-Marie Dubois

The Centre d’Étude de l’Expression (CEE) originated in 1954, when Professor Jean Delay founded the first Département d’Art Psychopathologique at the Clinique des Maladies Mentales et de l’Encéphale, placing it under the direction of Professor Robert Volmat. In 1973, this department evolved into the Centre d’Étude de l’Expression as it exists today. The CEE is a public-interest nonprofit organization. Its mission encompasses art therapy training, scientific research, specialized documentation, and the preservation and promotion of the Collection Sainte-Anne. It is also a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). © MAHHSA Anne-Marie Dubois is a psychiatrist and child psychiatrist.
