Every Wednesday at Baiser Salé, Mario Canonge and Michel Zenino bring their jazz residency back to life, blending improvisation, virtuosity, and musical cross-pollination.
After more than two decades of musical collaboration, Mario Canonge and Michel Zenino are reviving their celebrated residency at Baiser Salé, a cherished Wednesday ritual for their loyal and passionate audience. Since 2006, this unique piano and double bass duo has established a format that is as demanding as it is intense, with no gimmicks or compromises, where every note and every silence matters. Far from being a limitation, the absence of drums creates a musical playground where concentration, mutual attentiveness, and sensitivity reach their peak. On stage, Canonge, a leading figure in Caribbean jazz, and Zenino, a double bassist known for his remarkably precise phrasing, offer inventive interpretations of jazz classics – from Thelonious Monk to Ornette Coleman – while infusing them with their Creole and Latin roots and their passion for blending musical traditions. A true laboratory of improvisation, this residency combines tradition and modernity through a rare form of alchemy, enriched by years of uninterrupted musical dialogue. An essential event for fans of jazz that is vibrant, free, and deeply felt.
