LATE AGAIN (10:00 p.m.) (Dream pop - Symphonic - Brooklyn, US) Funny, tender and subtly critical all at once, these songs move between minimalism and chaos, irony and sincerity, the intimate and the universal. With this fourth studio EP, Late Again is beginning to reveal a genuine thread running through his work. A newfound confidence is also emerging as he hones an instantly recognizable songwriting style. Blending dream pop textures, alternative rhythms, melodies rooted in his native Brazil, and lyrics that are both cynical and compassionate, he creates a space where lucidity and illusion coexist. A collection of nostalgic, inviting songs that manage to be both gentle and challenging. After leaving São Paulo for New York, Rafael turned to this project as a way to navigate displacement, reinvention later in life, and the sheer absurdity of wanting to belong somewhere. “Late Again grew out of my search for a place where I could feel at home. I never truly felt at home where I was born, and I don’t feel completely at home here either. But I realized that this desire to belong exists everywhere.” While Late Again’s story is deeply personal, his yearning is universal. His songs seem to speak to anyone living between different places, languages or identities; to those trying to laugh about it, cry about it, or simply dance as they keep moving forward.
