The Mémorial de la Shoah is located opposite the cité de la Muette de Drancy, a site originally intended for the construction of social housing. Requisitioned by Nazi Germany in 1941, it became an internment camp and later the main transit camp for Jews deported from France during the war. Between 1942 and 1944, more than 63,000 Jews were interned there before being deported. From July 1943 onward, the Bobigny train station became the main departure point for Auschwitz‑Birkenau. More than 22,500 Jews departed from there. Today, both sites preserve and pass on the memory of the Holocaust.
