Blending art and fashion, this exhibition explores one of the foundations of Swedish culture: a shared sense of order, restraint, and neutrality, often referred to as “good taste.” The exhibition seeks neither to celebrate nor reject it, but to examine it subtly, revealing how these norms shape bodies, behaviors, and imaginations.
Drawing on everyday gestures – standing in line, waiting your turn, behaving properly – “Everything Is in Order” explores the tension between order and distortion, neutrality and identity, the ordinary and the absurd. The quiet order that permeates everyday Swedish life is tested by subtle dissonances: everything seems determined to be just right, yet something resists, slips, and escapes. Through an array of silhouettes, sculptures, sounds, and images, the exhibition presents familiar figures that never quite find where they belong. Reassembled mannequins, with extraordinary proportions and blurred identities, form lines with no clear destination. The garments, created by different generations of designers – both established and emerging – are brought together without any apparent hierarchy. Here, brands fade into the background, giving way to the relationships between the pieces. Art does not illustrate fashion: it disrupts it, obstructs the silhouettes, interrupts the gaze, and introduces friction. A field of echoes allows past and present to blur together and the familiar to become strange. Fashion is no longer seen as a product or a static image; it emerges as a system in motion, fragile and dependent on context and perspective. Archetypes merge and are reborn in another form, revealing a space where surrealism, humor, and the uncanny meet the ordinary and the mundane.
