Les Pavillons de Bercy - Musée des Arts Forains are hosting an exceptional free lecture for the 2026 European Heritage Days.
Who hasn’t had their photo taken at a funfair? As a child on their first carousel ride, stepping shakily off a thrill ride, or enjoying a toffee apple? Photography is far from a recent phenomenon at fairgrounds: as soon as more portable cameras became available and exposure times grew relatively shorter, traveling photographers began following carnival operators, before the operators themselves embraced this new art form—and even turned it into entertainment. This lecture takes you through the history of funfair photography since the late 19th century.
