On September 25, 2026, Nuit de l'ENS returns with an edition dedicated to data.
At every moment of our lives, vast amounts of data are collected and may be stored, used, analyzed, reused, sold, or lost. Data has long been essential to the functioning of states and societies, and both its use and its disappearance can lead to major advances or setbacks across every field of human activity. Today, data also lies at the heart of two enormous revolutions and at the intersection of numerous social issues. The “Big Data” revolution is ushering us into an era in which data is measured in petabytes, while the Artificial Intelligence revolution is completely transforming how we analyze it. Whether we are seeking to understand the origins of the universe and life, improve human or planetary health, or predict the climate, data is always an essential link. This raises questions about how data is collected, protected, used, and kept accurate. AI also prompts major ethical questions even as it enables significant advances. To help everyone better understand these crucial issues, École normale supérieure is organizing Nuit des données on Friday, September 25, 2026, under the scientific direction of Hélène Morlon and Emmanuel Didier. This new edition of “Nuit de l’ENS,” Normale Sup’s science and literature festival, will offer an exceptional evening of talks, workshops, debates, exhibitions, and performances created by ENS faculty and their guests. The event will explore data in all its forms and through every field of knowledge, from experimental sciences to literature and the humanities.
