“Carnets d'Islande” by François Olislaeger — meet the author and exhibition at Librairie Voyageurs du Monde, 48 rue Sainte-Anne Paris 2e arrondissement, on September 3, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.
Born in Liège, Belgium, and usually based between Paris and Mexico, press illustrator (Le Monde, Libération, Les Inrocks, Le 1 Hebdo, Beaux-Arts Magazine…) and graphic novel author François Olislaeger traveled to Iceland in the summer of 2025. Adrift like an iceberg after a breakup, he roamed the island alone for ten days. What began as a journey through grief and lost love ultimately became a poignant and humorous illustrated narrative. A journey of transformation—of light, sky, and ectoplasmic shapes—and rediscovery, the book captivates with the vivid, organic beauty of the landscapes he renders in simple lines: a mountain resting on the sea, immense valleys, endless fields of stones, basalt columns, lava formations, and the black-sand beach of Reynisfjara. Just as striking are the silences: the one he moves through and the silence within the panels. As the pages turn and the days pass, there is a powerful sense that the fog is lifting. Librairie Voyageurs is delighted to welcome François Olislaeger on Thursday, September 3, for the launch of Carnets d'Islande, published by Gallimard (Le Sentiment géographique collection), and the opening of his exhibition, where some of his drawings will be available for purchase. The event will conclude with a friendly cocktail reception. Librairie Voyageurs du Monde 48, rue Sainte-Anne, 75002 Paris +33 (0)1 42 86 17 38 Metro: Opéra [email protected] voyageursdumonde.fr
