On the occasion of the International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL) on September 23 and the International Day of the Deaf (IDD) on September 26, discover So Nice, an engaged theatrical reading about the reality of domestic violence.
Born from Jennifer Lesage-David's show, this bilingual reading stages two deaf friends, Béatrice and Sohanne, who reconnect through a screen. Through their exchange, French Sign Language (LSF) and spoken French intertwine in the interpretation by actresses Delphine Leleu (Deaf) and Amandine Marco (Hearing) to show how control takes hold. Beneath its apparently innocuous title, So Nice points to the social mask of the manipulator: this man perceived as charming and beyond suspicion by those around him, which makes the victim's voice even harder to hear. This text thus makes visible the complexity of denial, shame, and silence within small communities where everyone knows each other. Breaking with this hierarchical gender dynamic, the cradle of all other dominations, is an urgency for me.
