Vasco Dantas Vasco Dantas, a Portuguese pianist born in Porto, is artistic director of the Music Series Festivals, the Algarve Music Series, and the Piano Concerto Festival. He has won over 50 awards and honors in international competitions, including: the Grand Prize of the Valletta International Piano Competition (Malta), the Special Prize of the SAR Princess Lalla Meryem International Piano Competition (Morocco), the GianClaudio Chiais International Prize (Rome), the Münster Steinway & Sons Piano Competition, the Cidade de Vigo International Piano Competition (Spain), as well as the Porto Santa Cecília and Estoril Lisbon competitions. His performances have regularly taken him to prestigious halls across the five continents. After his acclaimed performances at Hong Kong City Hall and in the Grand Hall of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Vasco recently performed for the first time at Carnegie Hall in New York, at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. He has also performed as a soloist with several orchestras, including the Kremlin Chamber Orchestra (Moscow), the Hong Kong Symphonia, the Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim (Germany), the Gulbenkian Orchestra (Lisbon), the Porto Symphony Orchestra, the Filarmónica Portuguesa, and the Espírito Santo Symphony Orchestra (Brazil). These collaborations have given him the opportunity to work with many renowned conductors, including Baldur Brönnimann, Choi Sown Le, Daniel Cohen, Dinis Sousa, Douglas Bostock, Günter Neuhold, Jan Wierzba, Joshua dos Santos, Martim Sousa Tavares, Martin André, Misha Rachlevsky, Nicholas Kok, Nikolay Lalov, Nuno Coelho, Osvaldo Ferreira, Pedro Carneiro, Pedro Neves, Peter Sauerwein, Rui Pinheiro, Vassily Sinaisky, and Victor Hugo Toro. Vasco Dantas performed live on Portuguese national television for the first time at age six, after beginning piano studies at age four. In 2000, he was admitted with distinction to the Porto Music Conservatory, where he studied with Rosgard Lingardson and completed his training in 2010 with the highest grade. From age seven, Vasco also studied violin. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree with "First Class Distinction" from the Royal College of Music in London, where he studied piano with Dmitri Alexeev and Niel Immelman, as well as conducting with Peter Stark and Natalia Luis-Bassa. He subsequently earned a Master's degree in Performance with the highest grade, as well as the doctoral diploma "Konzertexamen," under the direction of Heribert Koch at the University of Münster. Vasco was invited to teach as a university lecturer at Boston University. He also holds a Master's degree in Music Education from the University of Aveiro and the "Art of Teaching" diploma from the Royal College of Music in London. He is regularly invited to give masterclasses and teach at festivals around the world, as well as to serve as a jury member at several international piano competitions. He has been invited to record for the labels KNS Classical, ARS Produktion, MPMP, and Coviello Classics. His discography includes seven albums: Promenade (2015), Golden Liszt (2016), Freitas Branco | Sonatas (2020), nominated in the "Best Classical Music Album" category at the 2021 Play Awards, Poetic Scenes (2020), nominated in the "Young Artist of the Year" category at the 2021 Opus Klassik Awards, Departure (2021), Préludes | Prelúdios (2024), and Tomás Borba - Violin & Piano (2025).
