Biru ZHAO Turning Stone into Gold September 10 — October 10, 2026 LooLooLook Gallery is pleased to announce Biru ZHAO's solo exhibition. Turning Stone into Gold LooLooLook Gallery presents Turning Stone into Gold, an exhibition that is part of its program dedicated to dialogue between contemporary European and Asian practices. Through this new series, Zhao Biru continues her reflection on the transformations of matter, gesture, and perception, bringing into dialogue ink, paper, stone, and memory. Her work explores the boundaries between the visible and invisible, between fragility and strength, matter and light.
Born in China into a family of artists, trained at Yangtsé South University and then at the School of Art and Design in Amiens, Zhao Biru has been living and working in France for over twenty years. Her path, nourished by Chinese calligraphy and contemporary painting, has shaped a singular artistic language where power and gentleness balance each other. Ink remains at the heart of her language, but it now transcends the framework of painting to inhabit space. In Turning Stone into Gold, recycled paper, fragile and destined to be discarded, metamorphoses into mineral volumes of striking lightness. It becomes stone, relief, and sculpture, while ink transforms into matter and calligraphic gesture becomes space. Suspended on the wall, these works invite us to reconsider our relationship to value, time, and transformation. Zhao Biru does not seek to create an illusion, but to shift our perception and provoke wonder. Her creative process is based on dialogue between intuition, water, breath, and movement. Without preliminary sketches, each work is born from a balance between control and chance, in the spirit of Qi circulation. Golden lines then traverse the dark surfaces like breaths or bursts of light, revealing what seemed hidden. With this exhibition, Zhao Biru takes a new step in her journey: she transforms matter to better reveal the invisible and invites the viewer to see differently what surrounds them.
