What is our relationship to the body—our own, that of others? Very Flesh Body explores this indestructible, complex, and ambiguous connection.
Since our birth, we wear this skin-tight costume that is our body. Stuck to our flesh, it defines us, reveals us, but also constrains us. From the liberating power we can derive from it to the prison it can become, this improvised solo performance explores our intimate and ambivalent relationship to the body. Each performance of "Very Flesh Body" is a unique, ephemeral, and mesmerizing moment. Indeed, the show is built around your anonymous testimonies—short anecdotes recorded on our website. Two of them are broadcast at the start of the show, without the actress having heard them beforehand, inspiring the sketches that unfold before your eyes. Meanwhile, the lighting, music choices, and videos projected by the stage manager are also improvised. The video mapping system gives the show an immersive and contemporary dimension. The actress weaves together poetry, humor, drama, and horror to reveal the dark aspects of our embodiment—such as physical transformation, body dysmorphia, sexuality, illness, but also the vital force that keeps us standing.
