In response to the exhibition Live the Bride!, the Arab World Institute is organizing a series of roundtables around the social, cultural and contemporary issues of marriage in the Arab world.
Love marriage, arranged marriage, dating apps: how does the couple form today? Between family expectations, individual choices and new spaces for social interaction, romantic encounters reveal the profound transformations of contemporary Arab societies. By exploring these different models of couple formation, the roundtable highlights what the ways of meeting reveal about contemporary societies and how new forms of emotional and social bonds are being created within them. With: Warda Hadjab, sociologist and associate researcher at IREMAM. Marion Breteau, anthropologist and associate researcher at CEFREPA Kuwait. Laura Odasso, sociologist and senior lecturer at Paris 8 University, attached to the Migrations and Societies chair.
