A popular and intergenerational celebration of West African music, dance, traditions and cultures in the heart of the 20th arrondissement.
Come celebrate West African cultures and traditions at this new edition of the Fête des Griots, organized by the association Benkadi Afema 20, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. On the program: live concerts, music, rhythms, dances and West African traditions in a festive, warm and intergenerational atmosphere. Children and adults alike will discover the role of griots, essential figures in oral transmission, who keep alive stories, music, memories and knowledge from one generation to the next. To make the celebration even more vibrant, the public is invited to come in their finest traditional attire, from their country or region of the heart, including from France. A parade will allow everyone to celebrate together the diversity and richness of cultures and clothing traditions. Founded in 1996 by Bintou Sissoko, Benkadi Afema 20 has been working for three decades in the 20th arrondissement and the Paris region around sharing, solidarity, transmission and connection between cultures. The association also values the skills of women in the neighborhood, particularly through a catering service run by women from the area. This new edition of the Fête des Griots is organized with the support of the Réunion – Père-Lachaise District Council. A friendly gathering to listen, dance, discover, transmit and celebrate together the cultural diversity.
