"Des gestes de nos mondes" brings together works from the Frac Île-de-France collection and creations by artists based in Tunisia or originating from the southern shores of the Mediterranean.
Opening reception: Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Co-curators: Hela Djobbi, Salma Kossemtini and Cindy Olohou First presented at the Réserves in Romainville, then at 32bis in Tunis in 2027, the exhibition grew out of a collaboration between the two institutions. Throughout the exhibition, photographs, videos, sculptures, textiles, archives, objects, and everyday gestures form a landscape of narratives in which family histories, memories, migrations, languages, expertise, and heritage intertwine. The artists are less interested in archives as fixed traces of the past than in what they continue to produce in the present: what they pass on, what they transform, and what they allow to disappear. The works explore the many ways in which memory is constructed. Some draw on documents or testimonies; others reinvent fragments of history, shift perspectives, or make room for narratives that have long remained on the margins. All examine what creates memory: a repeated gesture, a photograph, a material, words passed down, a landscape, or an absence. Here, the Mediterranean appears not as a border or a single territory, but as a space crossed by flows, movements, and multiple imaginaries. Stories intersect, echo one another, and sometimes contradict each other. They map a geography shaped as much by connections as by distances. Rather than freezing the past, Des gestes de nos mondes invites us to see archives as living material, always open to reinterpretation. The works do not seek to impose a single narrative; they open up a space where different voices coexist, engage in dialogue, and shift our perspective.
