The Hôtel de Ville is all yours! To mark the 43rd edition of the European Heritage Days, the Hôtel de Ville de Paris is opening its doors to the public. A unique opportunity to discover what goes on behind the scenes at one of the capital’s most iconic monuments.
Over the weekend of September 19 and 20, visitors will be able to explore the office of the Maire de Paris, the Conseil de Paris chamber, the library, and the prestigious ceremonial rooms. The visit will also provide an opportunity to meet the people whose daily work is to preserve this exceptional heritage: locksmiths and clockmakers, upholsterers and parquet-floor specialists, chandelier makers and florists. Heritage professions will be given special prominence through the participation of historians, curators, archaeologists, stonemasons, and marble workers. All will share their commitment to preserving, restoring, and showcasing Parisian heritage. A wealth of exhibitions to discover Throughout the tour, exhibitions will recount the history of the Hôtel de Ville de Paris and highlight the major heritage projects currently being undertaken by the Ville. An area dedicated to women’s heritage will also invite visitors to rediscover the place of women in public spaces through Parisian statuary. Celebrating the bicentenary of photography As part of the bicentenary of photography, the public will have access to an exceptional selection of historic photographs, postcards, books, and technical documents from the collections of the Archives de Paris and the Ville’s ten heritage and specialist libraries. Celebrating 400 years of the Marine nationale With 2026 also marking the 400th anniversary of the Marine nationale and the 25th anniversary of the Ville de Paris becoming the sponsor of the aircraft carrier Charles-de-Gaulle, a model of the famous vessel will be displayed at the Hôtel de Ville. Showcasing “Fabriqué à Paris” artisans At Paris la Boutique, two exhibitions dedicated to artisans bearing the “Fabriqué à Paris” label will celebrate photography and design. The exhibited creations, along with a selection of Ville de Paris-branded products, will be available to the public throughout the weekend. To guide visitors through this experience, mediators from the École du Louvre will be present along the entire route to share their knowledge and answer questions. Accessible arrangements for people with disabilities will also be provided in partnership with the Action Passeraile association. Free, mandatory reservations will open on September 9.
