Formed in 2017 by longtime friends, they released their first full-length album, Duet, in 2020 and found success with their viral debut track, the youth-oriented hip-hop song Dependence Day (2020), followed by Serial (2022). But their popularity truly exploded with the release of a Baxter Dury-esque single following their shift to post-punk. Their latest album, the third of their career, Piggy Ride (2024), continued this rise. The key to their appeal beyond their country's borders lies in their ability to combine musical talent with an innate sense of theatricality in their performances. Their humorous music videos and offbeat social media promotions are every bit as remarkable as their music. Vtoroi Ka's commitment to Kyrgyzstan, where they grew up, also plays an essential role. Unlike many artists who seek to join the global music industry by moving to major cities, they shoot their videos in mountainous Bishkek and manage to remain authentic while inspiring audiences to discover this vibrant yet often overlooked corner of the world. Their other great strength is the way they approach every stage of their musical journey. They may seem destined to create a successful post-punk record, but their latest release defies categorization. With the PO GUBE EP, Sultan and Ilya have created an ambitious, voice-centered work featuring complex rhythms and irresistible emotion. At the heart of every song—and especially the single Po Gube—is a genuine ear for pop and its ability to convey emotion. Add Sultan's voice, and the result is particularly compelling. Vtoroi Ka provides a soundtrack for the dark, intoxicating ecstasy they evoke. In 2025, Vtoroi Ka will play their first concerts in neighboring countries and Western Europe, including iconic venues such as Lido (Berlin), ARCHA+ (Prague), Petit Bain (Paris), Le Botanique (Brussels), Commissary (Heidelberg), and the Iceland Airwaves festival. In 2026, Vtoroi Ka will continue their European tour, presenting their new album at the Reeperbahn festival in Hamburg and in several other cities across the continent.
