As part of the “William Klein: Films, etc.” retrospective, this special screening invites you to discover William Klein’s film Charlotte’s Birthday, in the presence of Charlotte Lévy-Markovitch.
Charlotte’s Birthday Directed by William Klein, 25 minutes, 1974 With Charlotte Levy, Coline Sereau, Roland Topor. “A super-8 anarchist film for Kodak” (Charlotte) Twelve-year-old Charlotte wants to throw a birthday party for herself and her friends, but she has no money. Her older sister (Coline Serreau) tells her, “Society steals from us, so you might as well steal too.” Charlotte puts this good advice into practice. The film ends with a huge party. Charlotte Lévy-Markovitch played the title character in this film by William Klein. She later appeared in The Model Couple and has remained very close to William Klein’s world. She went on to pursue an artistic and literary career. In particular, she directed a stage adaptation of Serge Gainsbourg’s Evguénie Sokolov and published Ça va aller, ça va aller, ça va aller… with Hinstin.
