To mark Hangeul Day, celebrated on October 9, and the opening of the K-ZONE, the Centre Culturel Coréen is offering an introductory workshop on traditional Korean calligraphy.

Based on the harmony of dots and strokes, Korean calligraphy is an art in which every gesture matters. Since the creation of Hangeul in the 15th century, it has played an essential role in Korean culture. Through ink and brush, it expresses the balance between empty and filled space, the simplicity of forms, and the beauty of movement. Distinguished by its natural elegance and emphasis on space, Korean calligraphy offers a way to explore the principles of Hangeul and an artistic approach rooted in the pursuit of harmony and balance. During this workshop, which is open to everyone, participants will discover the four fundamental elements of traditional calligraphy—the ink stick, inkstone, Korean hanji paper, and brush—and try their hand at this gestural art form. Ms. Geum Young-sook, who teaches the calligraphy workshop at the Centre Culturel Coréen, will also offer a personalized experience, calligraphing visitors’ first names or a word of their choice on a fan or sheet of hanji paper for them to keep as a souvenir. A self-guided practice area will also be available, allowing participants to view examples of calligraphy and practice reproducing Hangeul characters.

Admission: Free participation, no reservation required
