Conference: At the Crossroads of Perspectives: The Photography Competition as a Tool for Regional Development. This conference examines the photography competition as a recurring means of portraying regions. Since the 19th century, these calls for participation have attracted “amateurs”—a far from homogeneous category encompassing professionals working independently of commissions, members of photography clubs, and occasional practitioners alike. By bringing together this diversity of perspectives and skills, the competition does more than simply collect images: it helps shape representations of regions at the intersection of political viewpoints and lived, local experience.
