This 80-minute documentary, directed by Emilie Brisavoine in 2025, won the Audience Award & Special Jury Mention for a Feature Film at Festival du film de Belfort : EntreVues, as well as the Special Jury Mention at Festival 2 Valenciennes and the Exhibitors' Favorite Award at Rencontres du Cinéma Indépendant in Marseille.
Émilie Brisavoine attempts to unravel the greatest mystery in the universe: her mother, Meaud. A wounded child, punk mother, brilliant grandmother and instinctive feminist, Meaud is as fascinating as she is maddening. Maman déchire is an intimate odyssey, a journey through the labyrinth of the psyche. As a path toward healing, Émilie Brisavoine offers a psychedelic, psychological and esoteric journey through time, taking the form of a pop collage somewhere between a home movie, found footage and handheld-camera performance. Ten years earlier, the filmmaker had already portrayed her teenage half-sister's relationship with Meaud in Pauline s’arrache (2015). This time, she inserts herself into the family saga and takes a stand, evoking along the way Jonathan Caouette's approach in the searing Tarnation (2003). Will she manage to confront her mother and bring peace to their relationship? A film to watch as a family, as an attempt at reconciliation.
