A leading figure in international contemporary art, Annette Messager takes over the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature for the first time.
A bestiary of human passions More than 80 works are displayed across some fifteen rooms in a thematic journey ( romantic raptures , capture and captivity , animal blood , domesticated wildness…) where major installations, iconic works, and previously unseen pieces enter into dialogue with the museum's collections. A fresh perspective: animality as a key to interpretation For the first time, Annette Messager's work is explored through the lens of animality. Although animals have been a recurring presence in her work since the 1970s, they have never before been the subject of such an extensive exploration. The animal world becomes a mirror of human passions and impulses: animals resemble us, parody us, and reveal who we are. An international career Winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2005 and the Praemium Imperiale in 2016, Annette Messager has been the subject of major exhibitions at some of the world's leading institutions: MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Hayward Gallery in London, the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. This exhibition at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature builds on that global recognition by offering the artist one of the most distinctive settings imaginable.
