From June 8 to July 8, the Conseil de Quartier Léon Blum - Folie-Régnault and the Mairie du 11e are organizing a photography exhibition titled “(re)discover our ponds” on the railings of square Gardette.
As the city has expanded, ponds have gradually disappeared, yet they are well suited to cities and their green spaces. They are reservoirs of biodiversity: they enable reproduction and feeding, and provide shelter for many animal species, such as frogs, dragonflies, damselflies, herons, ducks… Many aquatic plants are also found there: water lilies, duckweed, yellow flag irises, marsh marigolds, knotweed… The proximity of these water points to one another forms the blue network, an ecological network or corridor that helps support this wildlife’s life cycle.
