From September 15-27, 2026, the exhibition 'Those Who Paved the Way' traces the history of women mariachi through archival photographs, objects and traditional costume. A tribute to the pioneers who organized and led the first all-female mariachis and brought their music to international stages, as part of the Female Mariachi Europe Festival 2026.
Come discover the history of women mariachi through an exhibition of photographs and archival objects that tell an essential story: that of a musical genre far from being reserved for men. For three weeks, the L'Esprit d'Escalier gallery will host photographs and archival pieces dedicated to the women who paved the way in the world of mariachi. You can discover photographs of the first women to have organized and led all-female mariachis, as well as testimonies of their journeys and their groups, which they took to international stages. Today, women from around the world can in turn take the stage, trumpet and guitarrón in hand, to bring rancheras and mariachi music to life. The exhibition will also allow visitors to admire a traditional women mariachi costume, a true symbol of the identity and evolution of this musical tradition. And the exhibition doesn't stop at photographs: several special events are planned as part of the Female Mariachi Europe Festival 2026. On September 17, a conversation dedicated to women mariachi will bring together voices and experiences to reflect on the place of women in this musical tradition. On September 19, music takes center stage with a concert that will showcase the talent and power of women mariachi.
