Enjoy a family moment at the MEP, sharing and discussing a philosophical theme related to the exhibitions and accessible to younger visitors. After exploring the “Photography in All Its Letters” exhibition independently, parents and children are invited to come together and take the time to express their ideas, talk and listen in a friendly atmosphere.
Inspired by John Berger’s Ways of Seeing (1972), the exhibition draws on this seminal work’s idea that “seeing comes before words.” Does an image need to be explained in order to be understood? Sometimes, a photograph tells us something without using any words. It can evoke emotions, memories or stories in our imagination. But do words change the way we look? Does a word necessarily evoke an image? Using works from the exhibition, the children will explore this question together by observing, discussing and inventing their own interpretations of the images, adding their own words or silences.
