Stelarc continues his exploration of alternative anatomical architectures with HAHA – Hypertophic Ambidextrous Hand and Arm – a new robotic arm designed at Sorbonne Université’s Institute of Intelligent Systems and Robotics. Connected through an exoskeleton and an array of sensors placed on his body, it creates an interactive choreography between the body, machine, sound, image, and algorithm. A groundbreaking performance that is neither entirely improvised nor fully automated. HAHA is connected to the artist’s body. Its innovative movement capabilities (infinite hyperextension and ambidexterity) offer unprecedented performance possibilities. The installation is controlled by an exoskeleton, biosensors, and a pseudorandom generator. Footage from fixed and mobile cameras is projected onto a giant screen through an interactive mixing system. The soundscape is generated from the robot’s movements and audio clips captured from the mechanism.
