A piano concert-reading blending Schubert's lieder with Rûmi's mystical poetry, featuring pianist Layla Ramezan and narrator Leili Anvar.
Some encounters transcend both time and space. Schubert's music and Rûmi's poetry recognize each other in this way: like two souls separated by centuries yet born of the same life force. This poetic concert grew out of the meeting of the mystical worlds of two great musical and literary geniuses: Franz Schubert and Jalal al-din Rûmi. The former's captivating tonalities and the profound rhythm of the latter's poetry made a lasting impression on pianist Layla Ramezan. She therefore enlisted Leili Anvar, a renowned translator and specialist in mystical literature, to create a piano concert in which works by the Viennese composer are interwoven with readings of poetry by the great 13th-century Persian poet, translated into French and read in Persian and French by Leili Anvar. To accompany the readings and create musical links between Schubert's works, Layla Ramezan performs and improvises on pieces by G.I. Gurdjieff, an Armenian mystical composer.
