On Sunday, October 11, the Mallorcan singer and leading figure in contemporary Catalan music will return to L’Olympia 50 years later for a concert celebrating her entire career. Several of the songs she performed in Paris in 1975 will be included. Ahead of the concert, on Tuesday, September 8, a conversation with the singer-songwriter will be held at the Sorbonne.
On April 27, 1975, Maria del Mar Bonet gave one of the most iconic concerts of her career at Paris’s legendary L’Olympia. Fifty years later, this unmistakable voice of Catalan song and internationally renowned figure in Mediterranean music returns to the same stage to commemorate that historic moment. On Sunday, October 11, she will reunite with Parisian audiences and everyone wishing to share in an event etched into the musical memory of several generations. The concert Maria del Mar Bonet at L’Olympia: 50 Years Later will revisit some of the most representative songs in her repertoire, including Cançó per una bona mort , Nina, ninona de bressol , Abril , Aigo , Me n’aniré de casa , Sonet , Tonada de collir olives and Què volen aquesta gent ? . The singer will be accompanied by an outstanding new ensemble of Mallorcan musicians led by lute player Toni Pastor, with Marc Grasas (guitar), Marko Lohikari (double bass), José Llorach (percussion) and Benjamí Salom (violin). Maria del Mar Bonet holds a prominent place in the history of contemporary Catalan music. Over a career spanning more than five decades, her work has made a decisive contribution to bringing Catalan song to international audiences by bridging tradition and modernity. Throughout her 60-year career, Maria del Mar Bonet has made music a space for freedom, social engagement and dialogue, forging connections between the different shores of the Mediterranean while always returning to Majorque, her source of inspiration.
