The national high school grant is for students enrolled in a public high school, in a private high school authorized to receive national grant recipients, or in a regional adapted education institution (EREA). Higher education students enrolled in high school are not eligible.

It is awarded for one school year to families whose income does not exceed a certain threshold; this threshold varies depending on the number of dependent children.

For the 2026-2027 school year, your level of resources and the number of children you support must be justified by your 2026 tax notice (or non-taxation notice) covering your 2025 income. For parents living together as unmarried partners, both incomes are taken into account. In cases of alternating residence, the income of the grant applicant or of their blended household will be taken into account.

2026-2027 campaign calendar

The 2026-2027 campaign for high school grant applications begins on the first day of the school year. It ends on October 15, 2026 , whether your child is enrolled in a public or private institution, and whether the application is submitted online or using a paper form.

For students enrolled at the Cned (Centre national d'enseignement à distance), the application deadline is October 31, 2026 .

If you gave your consent at the previous start of the school year for automatic assessment of grant eligibility, you do not need to take any action this year; your eligibility will be reassessed automatically.

Amounts and payment dates in 2026-2027

For the 2026-2027 school year, the annual amount of the aid is:

  • €504 for level 1;

  • €621 for level 2;

  • €732 for level 3.

  • €843 for level 4;

  • €957 for level 5;

  • €1,071 for level 6.

The grant is paid in 3 installments (end of December, end of March, and end of June).

Annual grant amount

You can use the high school grant simulator provided by the ministère de l'Éducation nationale. It lets you find out whether your household may receive a grant during the 2026-2027 school year and estimate its amount.

How to submit your grant application for the 2026-2027 school year?

Your child is enrolled in a public institution

You can consent to automatic assessment of your eligibility for a grant when registering or re-registering your child in collège for the 2026-2027 school year. This consent counts as a grant application.

For the automatic assessment of grant eligibility, you are asked to provide your civil status details (last name and first names, date and place of birth) as well as those of any unmarried partner. This allows the tax data needed to review your grant application to be retrieved. You are therefore exempt from submitting a grant application at the following starts of the school year, thanks to the retention of your consent.

If you do not consent to this system, you can submit your grant application during the 2026-2027 campaign:

Your child is enrolled in a private institution

If your child is enrolled in a private institution under contract or authorized to receive national grant recipients, the application is made using the same form and must be submitted with the supporting documents to the secretariat of the enrollment institution no later than October 15, 2026.

Your child is enrolled at Cned

The application is made using the same form, which you must send with the supporting documents to the Service académique des bourses no later than October 31, 2026:

  • for students enrolled at Cned in general and technological high school: the application is made to the Service des bourses de l'académie de Rennes ;

  • for students enrolled at Cned in vocational high school: the application is made to the Service des bourses de l'académie de Lyon.

For more information, see the dedicated Cned page.

Additional bonuses that may be awarded to high school grant recipients

Boarding school bonus

It is automatically awarded to all national grant-recipient boarding students, and adjusted according to the student's grant level. Families do not have to complete an application. Its annual amount ranges from €327 (1st level) to €672 (6th level).

Bonus for grant-recipient students resuming their studies in high school

Young people aged 16 to 18 who have dropped out of training and resume vocationally oriented studies may receive a study resumption bonus (€600), in addition to the high school grant:

  • young people who resume their studies after a break in schooling of at least 5 months;

  • young people entitled to a national high school grant when they resume their studies.

The young person must enroll in a high school to resume training, ask the host institution's secretariat about grant eligibility, then submit their grant application.

Merit grant (in high school)

Grant-recipient students who received a Bien or Très bien distinction on the diplôme national du brevet (DNB) are automatically awarded the merit grant. This system aims to help these students continue their studies. Its annual amount varies according to the grant level, from €402 (1st level) to €1,002 (6th level).

Equipment purchase bonus

This one-time bonus of €341.71 is paid with the first quarterly grant payment to first-year students in certain CAP, vocational baccalaureate, technological baccalaureate, or brevet de technicien specializations.
