The moving allowance in 2026
The moving allowance is intended for large families with at least 3 dependent children (born or due to be born within 6 months of the move).
To receive it, the conditions are as follows:
-
have at least 3 dependent children (born or due to be born);
-
the move must be scheduled between the 1st day of the month after the end of your 3rd month of pregnancy and the last day of the month preceding your youngest child's 2nd birthday;
This allowance is paid by the Caisse d'allocations familiales (Caf) or the Mutuelle sociale agricole (MSA); you must be a beneficiary of one or the other.
Since April 1, 2026 (depending on the number of dependent children), the maximum amount granted is:

€1,147.58 for 3 dependent children (€1,138.49 in 2025);

€1,243.21 for 4 dependent children (€1,233.36 in 2025);
-
€95.63 per additional child (€94.87 in 2025).
These amounts are valid until March 31, 2027.

What other assistance is available?
Other assistance is available if you are moving:

The Fonds de solidarité pour le logement (FSL), which varies from one department to another. You may qualify if you are in a difficult personal situation. Contact your Caf or MSA directly, the centre d'action sociale de la Ville de Paris, or your town hall if you live in another municipality. A social worker will submit an assistance application.

The aide à l'installation des personnels de l'État (AIP) (reserved for civil servants, contract employees, etc.). Its amount ranges from €700 to €1,500 depending on the situation. Find out more on the site de l'action sociale de l'État.

The prestation de compensation du handicap (PCH) . This assistance is intended to offset loss of independence for people with disabilities, for whom moving costs may be covered up to €3,000.

Assistance under your convention collective . If you are an employee, coverage may be provided and/or a day of leave (or more) may also be granted for the move.
