Cancer: Adapted physical activity sessions covered in certain regions Published on May 29, 2026 - Service Public / Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
Provided for by the 2024 Social Security Financing Act, an experimental scheme allows for the coverage of adapted physical activity (APA) sessions for people receiving or having received cancer treatment. A decree dated April 14, 2026, and an order dated May 13, 2026, specify these provisions.

The 2024 Social Security Financing Act (Article 42) provided, on an experimental basis, for the implementation of a pathway including adapted physical activity sessions prescribed by a doctor. This program includes, in particular, an initial assessment and sessions adapted to the patient's health status.
The experiment is being rolled out in Brittany, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur for a period of 2 years.
The number of collective adapted physical activity sessions is limited to 12 sessions over a period of 3 months. The program can be renewed once, for a maximum of 24 sessions per patient.
As part of the experiment, coverage is regulated:
-
€7.50 per session;
-
€45 for the final assessment;
-
€15 for coordination by the organization;
-
a global cap of €150 per patient, funded by the Regional Health Agency (ARS).
The scheme targets patients with or who have had cancer, generally classified as Long-Term Illness (ALD), upon medical prescription. Sessions are conducted by qualified professionals and organized by structures contracted with the ARS, responsible for coordinating the scheme.
Sessions and assessments must be carried out by healthcare professionals and professionals holding a degree in adapted physical activity under the conditions provided for by the Public Health Code.
